Ideas for our music video

Pictured below is a bubble diagram that I created, displaying some of the ideas that we have come up with as a group that we would like to include in our music video.

Costume and Makeup

Costume and makeup will play a large part in both the look and symbolic nature of our piece. As a group, we decided the outfits worn by each character carefully in order to assist in the narrative of our piece.

Hannah

We have chosen to dress my character in colourful clothes when she is with Jade and plain clothes when she is with her boyfriend Josh. This serves to represent her inner emotions whilst spending time with these different characters and her feelings towards them. The use of these colours will represent my character's happiness when she is with Jade in comparison to when she is spending time with Josh. It will also symbolise the different colours featured on the LGBTQ+ flag, representing the inner feelings of my character.

When my character is featured in shots with Josh, I will wear dark, dull clothing. This will symbolise my character's feelings towards Josh and our relationship. The use of these dull colours will not be in place to represent hatred or a bad relationship between the pair, but will symbolise my character's insecurity in a heterosexual relationship.

I believe that the use of these contrasting outfit choices alongside our choice to put the beginning of the video in black and white will assist in amplifying the narrative of our video to allow a greater understanding by the audience.

Josh

Josh’s character will only be featured in the first half of the video. Our choice to do this was based upon the idea that Jade’s character will almost replace him, showing that she is the person who is significant to me from that point on in the video. In order to further emphasise this, we chose to dress josh in dark colours when featured alongside my character, similarly to the outfits worn by my character. We have chosen to do this in order to demonstrate the lack of connection between the two and the unppiness seen throughout their relationship.

Jade

In complete contrast to the outfits worn by Josh in the video, Jade will be featured wearing bright, bold colours. This will help to demonstrate the complete contrast between the relationship between me and jade and the relationship previously seen between josh and I. She will wear these colours to represent the connection that we hold and will also symbolise the LGBTQ+ these strongly featured throughout.

Along with her bright outfits, Jade will also be featured wearing bright, bold makeup. He use of these bright colours will help to further highlight the theme throughout and will also demonstrate her femininity in comparison to the dull and dark shots featured with josh.

Filming- Day 2

Location: Cardiff centre

Date: 15th of November

Today, we filmed in Winter Wonderland in Cardiff centre. We decided to film here as the multicoloured lights will serve to represent the colours of the LGBTQ+ flag. We wanted to incorporate the colours in this way as the times that my character spends with Jade's are the times that she is most herself.

As it is getting darker early now, we chose to film at 5pm. Filming at this time gave us the perfect lighting to ensure that the lights were able to stand out and ensured that our footage would be clear and not turn out grainy due to the bad lighting.
We chose to film here as we felt that throughout the piece, the contrast between coloured lights on a dark backgroud would play a large role in the symbolic aspect of our video. The contrast between the colours serves to represent this idea of my characters finding light in Jade during a complicated time in her life. It also mirrors the contrast in colours worn when my character is with Jade compared to when she is with Josh.

We decided to film a POV shot when Jade and my character are sat having a drink together in Winter Wonderland. We decided we wanted to include this shot as it would show the way that my character looks at and idolises Jade's character. It would help to show their relationship.

Filming - Day 1

Location: Bridgend town

Date: 13th of |November

Today, we decided to film in Bridgend town. We chose this location for its plain surroundings. We wanted to film on a blank canvas, as it would allow for my character to stand out from the setting.

In this shot, my character is refelcting on her feelings towards Jade. The contrast between the dark staircase and the light centered around my character allows for me to stand out in the frame, singling me out from the background. This is very important throughout our piece as we wish to portray the isolation that she feels due to the battles that she is facing within herself.

In these shots, my character is confused about her feelings towards her best friend Jade. The first shot displays my character looking at Jade's longingly, showing the inner conflicts that she is facing with herself. The use of the OTS shot helps to draw attention to my character's facial expressions

Throughout our music video, we wish to show the way in which my character almost idolises Jade's. In this shot, Jade is influencing my character to smoke, something she would never do on her own accord. This willingness to do what Jade suggests helps to display this, showing that she will do whatever she can to impress Jade. The gloomy nature of these shots serve to act as a visual of my character's feelings.

Filming schedule

Before we begin filming for our music video, we have decided to create a filming schedule in order to allow us to use our time effectively in order for us to be as productive as we possibly can as a group.
This is pictured below:

We hope to stick to this schedule as closely as we possibly can however, we understand that sometimes things can get in the way that may prevent us from filming on the days selected. In order to combat this, we also decided to create a contingency plan to make sure that we have back up options in case we end up falling behind in our schedule.
